The great light of the world

What if? What now?

What if you believed in a God that desired relationship with you?  What if you received a gift that you cannot repay? What if you held to a hope that is bigger than any disaster or evil you know? What if the most powerful things were not weapons, political power, and money but rather knowledge, relationships, and love?

My faith says not ‘what if’ but ‘what now’. What now since God desires a relationship with me? What now since I have received a penalty payment for all the wrongs I’ve committed in life? What now since knowledge, relationships, and love are before me everyday ready for the taking?

The great light.

Hundreds of years before the birth of of the man we call Jesus Christ, the prophet Isaiah wrote, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned….For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The best gift.

Jesus was the king and savior the world needs but yet often doesn’t recognize. He wasn’t a politician. He wasn’t a military leader. He wasn’t a wealthy man. Jesus was a man that taught about love, human relationships, and God. Jesus was for all peoples, not a select group. Isaiah wrote his name would be Immanuel meaning God with us. That’s a pretty cool gift. Merry Christmas to me. Merry Christmas to you.
